Robert Deangelo Carter
Robert Deangelo Carter was 26 years old. His former attorney said he had a hard childhood and lived in foster care from the age of four. He died by suicide on October 9, 2016, while held in solitary confinement at Holman Correctional Facility, and the Escambia County coroner's office confirmed his death. Organizers and former officers said understaffing at the prison contributed to it.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (neglect alleged). Free Alabama Movement says under-staffing contributed to the death in solitary confinement at Holman, and former officers say the same.
