Robert Beltran
Robert Beltran, 50, died on May 1, 2020, while held at Kern Valley State Prison in Delano, California. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said other incarcerated men attacked him with homemade weapons as he left his cell, and that officers used chemical agents to stop the assault. He was taken to a hospital, where he died; a postmortem examination reported multiple stab wounds as the cause, and CDCR is treating the death as a homicide. The Kern County Sheriff's Office is also investigating, and one account says he was found unresponsive in his cell, a detail that conflicts with CDCR's description of an attack as he left it.
