Ricky Stewart
Ricky Stewart, 47, died on January 1, 2022, at Staton Correctional Facility in Elmore, Alabama, where he was held in a housing unit. The Equal Justice Initiative says he was stabbed to death, and it describes him as the third person killed in an Alabama prison in six weeks and the second killed at the Elmore/Staton complex. EJI places his death within a longer record of violence and mismanagement at the complex, which has drawn investigations and a federal lawsuit.
