Ricky Lee Sanderson
Ricky Lee Sanderson, 38, said he had become a Christian while in prison and read the Bible through every two months. In his final statement he said he was glad Christ had forgiven him, and before he died he said, "Thank you Jesus, I'm going home." He was executed by lethal gas at Central Prison in North Carolina early on Friday, August 4, 2006, and was pronounced dead at 2:19 a.m., about 18 minutes after the gas was released. His attorney said he had wanted to be executed throughout the legal process. Witnesses included the victim's father and the district attorney.
