Ricky Edwards, 61, died while held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center in Virginia, where the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office said he was found unresponsive in his cell and pronounced dead later that day, August 12, 2026. The sheriff's office said deputies and medical staff tried to save him, that fire and rescue were called, and that there was no sign of foul play and the death appeared to be from natural causes. An earlier account from county officials described an unnamed man held at the facility who died at an area hospital early on August 9 after being admitted earlier in the year for specialized treatment and later moved to hospice care, and the two accounts differ on the date and place of death. The sheriff's office said an autopsy would be performed.
