Ricky Earl Stewart
Ricky Stewart, 47, was stabbed to death in a housing unit at Staton Correctional Facility in Elmore, Alabama, according to Equal Justice Initiative, which says he was the second person killed at the Elmore/Staton complex and the third killed in an Alabama prison in six weeks. EJI places his death within a longer record of violence and mismanagement at the complex, which has drawn investigations and a federal lawsuit. Incarceration Transparency's records also list his death as a homicide by stabbing. The two sources give different dates of death, January 1, 2022 and January 31, 2022.
