Richard Whitley

Richard Whitley was put to death by electrocution in Virginia in 1987, in a state prison. A 2023 NPR report by Chiara Eisner, carried by OPB, says staff recorded the execution on tape. According to that report, the tape shows workers unsure how the recording was supposed to be made.

Reported by: Virginia Department of Corrections staff, who recorded the execution (the agency that held them). The only account of how this person died comes from the agency that held them.
