Richard Stobaugh
Richard Stobaugh died around September 11, 2026, at a state hospital in Fresno County, according to Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal, who said he died of natural causes. Stobaugh had been seeking release to a home in the Manila community under a July 2025 Humboldt County Superior Court order. A Humboldt County Superior Court judge later vacated that order, and the sheriff had opposed the release. The sheriff publicly said he was glad Stobaugh died and called for changes to state law.
