Richard Prieto
Richard Prieto, 44, died on January 27, 2020, at High Desert State Prison in Susanville, California, where he was held. According to prison officials at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, two other incarcerated men attacked him with makeshift weapons on the Facility D yard. Officials said staff used a warning shot and chemical agents to stop the attack, and that a doctor pronounced him dead at the prison's medical facility at 3:02 p.m. The prison said it is investigating the death as a homicide with the Lassen County District Attorney's Office, and a KCRA report noted he was one of three people killed in California state prisons that week.
