Richard Lee

Richard Lee, a Black man, was hanged in Fayetteville, North Carolina, in May 1879, according to The Somerset Herald. The paper estimated that a crowd of about 2,000 watched the hanging in public. The report says that on the scaffold he confessed and said he deserved to die.
