Died in prison
Richard J. Hirschfield
Richard J. Hirschfield, 75, died on December 16, 2024, at California Medical Facility, a prison hospital in Vacaville, while in the custody of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He had been held under a condemned sentence and had been housed on San Quentin's death row for about 11 years. CDCR said a registered nurse in the hospice unit pronounced him dead at 4:50 a.m. and that the initial cause of death was natural. The Los Angeles Times reported the same natural-causes finding as announced by CDCR.
