Richard Degraffenreid
Richard Degraffenreid, 35, was the only son of Ruth Garrison, who said he worked out and cut grass every day and was healthy as far as she knew. He was held at the Jackson County jail in July 2017. According to his family, guards restrained him in a chair and found him unresponsive before he was taken to Truman Medical Center, where he died on July 21, 2017. The county said the restraint chair met national accreditation standards but has not said how long he was restrained, and the sheriff's office is investigating his death.
