Reyes Vargas
Reyes Vargas, 23, died on August 26, 2023 while held at the Matagorda County Jail in Texas. His sister, Vicky Vargas Huerta, said he was about to start a new job and had just bought a new car, and that he was excited about both. She said he was taken to a hospital that afternoon after an altercation with another person held at the jail, and that he was found hanging in his cell later that night. The family disputes that he died by suicide and says photos they have show bruising. The Texas Rangers, the district attorney and the sheriff's office are investigating, and an autopsy was requested.
