Rex Iverson
Friends described Rex Iverson, 45, of Bear River City, as a generous, loving man who repaired garden tillers and helped people, and said he was devastated when his adopted parents died in a crash; Chrissy Sabala called him 'a wonderful guy.' He died on January 23, 2016, in a holding cell at the Box Elder County Jail before he was booked. The sheriff's office first said jailers were elsewhere in the jail preparing for booking when he died, and later said an investigation found he swallowed strychnine from gel capsules that had passed several pat-downs, and that the death was a suicide; the medical examiner's listed cause is strychnine poisoning. The Northern Utah Critical Incident Investigative Team reviewed the death, and early reports said foul play was not suspected.
