Executed
Rebecca Nourse
Rebecca Nourse was a member of a respected Topsfield-area family and its church, and a later Topsfield history, reprinted in the Jersey City News in 1898, describes her character as conspicuous. According to that account, she was held in jail and then taken under guard to a meeting house. The history says the jury first acquitted her, but she was executed in July 1692. The reprint presents her case as a grave injustice.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state. The History of Topsfield, reprinted in the Jersey City News, calls her case a grave injustice.
