Rayshawn Smith, 46, died on December 25, 2022, while in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections at the Stateville Northern Reception and Classification Center in Crest Hill, Will County. The department confirmed the death. The Will County Coroner's Office said an autopsy had been performed, and the cause of death had not been released. A separate state record of a 46-year-old man who died at Stateville Correctional Center on the same day, unnamed, lists the manner of death as suicide, a claim attributed to the Department of Corrections.
