Raymond Snowden

died October 17, 1957 · Idaho's historic old penitentiary, Idaho

Raymond Snowden spent about a year on death row at Idaho's old penitentiary. On October 17, 1957, shortly before midnight, guards took him the short distance to the execution chamber, where he was hanged by an experienced executioner brought in from out of state. Amber Beierle, manager of the old penitentiary, said the hanging took about 15 minutes to cause death and attributed this to a likely improperly tied knot. Asked for last words, Raymond Snowden said he wanted to speak but did not know how to say it.

Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state

Reported by: Amber Beierle, manager of Idaho's old penitentiary (the agency that held him). The only account of how this person died comes from the agency that held him.
