Raymond John Herrera
Raymond John Herrera, 52, of Lompoc, was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail in early June 2015. He collapsed in a jail bathroom after convulsing on his bunk and died at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on June 15, 2015. The coroner's report, by Dr. Jon Smith, attributes his death to internal bleeding from a ruptured spleen caused by cirrhosis of the liver. Community groups say jail staff did not respond promptly to his pleas for help and that the county's medical contractor, Corizon Health, provides inadequate care.
