Died in jail or a lockup
Rayfield Givens
Rayfield Givens was one of three men held in the Baker County jail in MacClenny, Florida, in October 1920. According to The Birmingham Age-Herald and The Pensacola Journal, about fifty armed men reached the jail around 1 a.m., overpowered the sheriff and took his keys. The men removed the prisoners from their cells, and Givens was taken to the edge of town, tied to a tree and shot to death. One account says the men were tied to trees and shot, while the other describes Givens alone, so the accounts differ on how many were killed and in what manner.
