Ray Arrowood
Ray Arrowood, 74, was held at Alexander Correctional Institution in Taylorsville, North Carolina, and died there on January 11, 2021, according to deaths-in-custody records compiled by UCLA Law Behind Bars. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety said a man in his mid-70s with underlying health conditions at the prison had tested positive for COVID-19 in December 2020, was hospitalized on December 24, and died after his condition worsened. The department declined to release his name, citing family privacy and confidentiality of prison records, and said he was the fifth person at the facility to die after testing positive for the virus. The prison commissioner said the department sympathized with his family and noted how hard the loss is during the holiday season.
