Rashad Davis, 19, of Pomona, attended schools for special needs youth all his life, and his family said he struggled with learning disabilities; his mother said she spent his whole life protecting and caring for him. He died in May 2015 at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, where he was held before trial, after he was found on the floor of a cell he shared with another person. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said the cause was blunt force injuries and that investigators determined the cellmate was responsible. His family questions why a young man with developmental disabilities was housed with a cellmate they say was showing signs of mental incompetence.
