Randy Rogers

63 years old · died July 8, 2022 · Columbia County Detention Center, Columbia County, Arkansas

Randy James Rogers, 63, was kind and witty, and gave his family advice over the years, his son said. He died in July 2022 while held at the Columbia County Jail, and his son says in a federal lawsuit that Randy had a history of heart problems and was repeatedly denied blood thinner medication. The suit says he was sent back to the jail from a hospital before staff delayed calling an ambulance for about 25 to 30 minutes. His sons, through their attorney, say his medications were withheld, he was not taken to his doctor, and jail staff delayed sending him to the hospital while he was in medical crisis.

Cause of death, as reported: Died from neglect by staff (disputed). Randy's son Randy Dewayne Rogers says in a federal lawsuit that jail staff repeatedly denied him blood thinner medication and delayed calling an ambulance for about 25 to 30 minutes after he was returned from a hospital, and his family's wrongful death lawsuit says staff ignored his heart problems and chest pain and did not send him to the hospital while he was in crisis; the defendants have not publicly responded.

Reported by: his family's federal and wrongful death lawsuits (family or their lawyers).
