Randall Kain
Randall Kain, 46, had struggled with heroin addiction for years and was living with his sister Yvonne Postlethwait-Allen in Akron before he relapsed; she remembers him as her younger brother who asked for help and once worked rehabbing houses in Cleveland. He was held in the Cuyahoga County jail system in the summer of 2018 and died on August 31 of what the county medical examiner's office listed as an accidental acute fentanyl intoxication. His sister said the county had not contacted her and that she was told of a heart attack before she learned of the drug finding. A later sheriff's investigative file, as reported by cleveland.com, said drugs reached him inside the jail and that detectives identified a suspect who allegedly brought them in, but it showed no follow-up on how the drugs got in and no charges.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose. The medical examiner ruled it an accidental acute fentanyl intoxication, and the sheriff's investigative file attributes the fatal overdose to drugs that reached him inside the jail.
Reported by: Cuyahoga County medical examiner's office (medical examiner or coroner); Cuyahoga County sheriff's investigative file (the agency that held him); cleveland.com (reporters).
