Randall Gamboa

52 years old · died October 26, 2025 · Webb County Detention Center, Webb County, Texas

Randall Gamboa, 52, a Costa Rican man from Pérez Zeledón, was held in U.S. immigration detention in Texas after ICE arrested him in February 2025. His family says he called them every day until June, when contact stopped, and that they found him bedridden in a Texas hospital in August. He was flown to Costa Rica in September, and he died in a hospital there in late October, with the date reported as October 25 or 26. His wife says Costa Rican doctors suspect brain damage, possibly from overmedication with antipsychotic drugs, while the Department of Homeland Security says the death did not occur in ICE custody and that his care was appropriate.

Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined (disputed; neglect alleged). His wife says Costa Rican doctors link his brain damage to possible overmedication with antipsychotic drugs given in custody, and the family alleges negligence, while DHS says his care was good and that the death did not occur in ICE custody.

Reported by: wife, Adriana Ureña Cordero, and his family (family or their lawyers); Costa Rican doctors, as relayed by his wife.
