Ramiro Gonzales
Ramiro Gonzales, 41, was a man of faith who, his lawyers said, ministered to others behind bars and tried to donate a kidney to a stranger. The State of Texas executed him by lethal injection at the Huntsville Unit on June 26, 2024, and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice reported that he was pronounced dead at 6:50 p.m. His lawyers argued that he had changed and was no longer dangerous, and so was ineligible for the death penalty under state law; the state disputed this, and the parole board voted 7-0 against clemency. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to intervene. In his final statement, he apologized to the victim's family and thanked his loved ones.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state. His lawyers argued he was no longer dangerous and so ineligible for the death penalty under state law, and the state disputed this.
Reported by: Texas Department of Criminal Justice (the agency that held him). The only account of how this person died comes from the agency that held him.
