Rahsaan Chambers
Rahsaan Chambers was 22 years old when he died in April 2021 while in the custody of the Philadelphia Department of Prisons. The Abolitionist Law Center says he developed diabetic ketoacidosis while held at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in Philadelphia, and that he was not taken to a hospital until late in the illness. The Law Center says he fell into a vegetative state there and died. The Philadelphia Department of Prisons reported his death to the state, which lists the manner of death as pending investigation.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (neglect alleged). The Abolitionist Law Center says Rahsaan Chambers developed diabetic ketoacidosis at Curran-Fromhold and that staff did not take him to a hospital until he had fallen into a vegetative state, from which he died.
