Prince Luster
Prince Luster, a Black man, was held in the Iuka jail in Mississippi. On the night of July 11, 1889, the Iuka Reporter said about 150 masked men overpowered the sheriff's guard, took the keys and removed him from his cell. A Memphis newspaper dispatch said the keys were demanded and handed over, and that the mob hanged him from a bandstand in the town park and left him there for several hours. The Iuka Reporter instead said he was hanged in the public square. His body was later cut down and sent to his wife at Burnsville.
