Pikkarien
Andrew Pikkarien, a Russian Finn, was held in the village jail at Ewen, near West Superior, Wisconsin, in February 1894. The Progressive Farmer reported that about fifty masked men surrounded the jail, and that the officers protested but could not stop them. The men smashed the doors, dragged him out about eighty rods to a railroad trestle, and hanged him there. Accounts of the night differ on the date, placing it on February 6 or in the week that followed, and the Laramie Republican account attributes the report to a West Superior correspondent.
