Peter Perryman
Peter Perryman, a Black man, was held at the jail in Mena, Arkansas, according to the Conway Log Cabin of March 5, 1901. The paper reported that a mob of eight men overpowered the guard, took him from his cell, and hanged him from a tree on the edge of town. The account says the guard was overpowered but does not say whether the jailer or sheriff resisted or gave up the keys. The paper gave a reason for the mob's action tied to an earlier incident involving a child, which this account does not repeat because it is unverified.
