Peter Kane

Peter Kane was held in the jail at Greeley, Colorado, in February 1902. A Greeley dispatch published in the Valentine Democrat on February 13, 1902, said that jailer Williams shot him during an attempt by other prisoners to break out, and that the wound was mortal. The Red Cloud Chief repeated the account the next day, without a date for the shooting.

Cause of death, as reported: Killed by staff. A Greeley, Colo. dispatch reports that jailer Williams shot Peter Kane, described as an insane prisoner, during an attempted jailbreak by other prisoners, and that the wound was mortal.
