Peter Berryman

Polk County, Arkansas

Peter Perryman was held in the jail at Mena, Arkansas. According to The Conway Log Cabin, which reported the killing in March 1901, a mob of eight men went to the jail, overpowered the guard, took him from his cell and hanged him from a tree on the edge of town. The County Record, in February 1901, reported that a Black man named Peter Berryman was taken from a jail at Mena and lynched by a mob, and the two accounts appear to describe the same killing.
