Pete Ayala
Pete Ayala, 29, died at the Barry B. Telford Unit, a Texas state prison in New Boston, on June 26, 2017. According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, he was found unresponsive in his cell on June 25 and was taken to Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, where he died the next day. Prison officials said preliminary indications were that his cellmate assaulted him, and the death is being investigated as a homicide by the agency's Office of Inspector General. The Texas inspector general's office is also investigating, and the cellmate's account has not been reported.
