Paul Plecker

67 years old · died November 29, 2018 · Fannin County Detention Center, Fannin County, Texas

Paul Dennis Plecker, 67, died on November 29, 2018, while held at the Fannin County Jail in Texas, which WFAA reported LaSalle Corrections was managing. The sheriff's office said he had health issues, had been placed in a single cell, was found dead later that day, and believed he died of natural causes. An autopsy attributed his death to heart disease aggravated by lung problems and diabetes, according to WFAA. A former jailer told WFAA that he was not checked on as required because he had been pulled to another area, and that a timely check might have brought help sooner. The Texas Rangers are investigating, and his body was sent to the medical examiner's office.

Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (neglect alleged). The autopsy attributed his death to heart disease aggravated by lung problems and diabetes, and a former jailer says staff did not make the required checks on him because they were pulled to another area.

Reported by: Fannin County Sheriff (the agency that held him); autopsy; news report.
