Paul Correia
Paul Correia, 45, lived with his mother, Carmela Correia, and his dog Spotty, and spent hours restoring a vintage Chevrolet Chevelle SS in the garage. In August 2013 he was moved from a county house of correction to Bridgewater State Hospital, where he was placed in four-point restraints, and he died days later of a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot that travelled from his leg to his lungs. The state medical examiner said the restraints may have caused the clot, which his weight made worse, and an outside expert described the restraints as a likely cause. His mother says she wants answers and closure, and the company that provided care at the hospital was found to have significant flaws in its records and monitoring.
