Patrick Langworthy

died June 18, 2022 · George W. Hill Correctional Facility, Delaware County, Pennsylvania

Patrick Langworthy was a kind man who would help anyone, and his mother and aunt remember his great sense of humor and how he took a classmate with a serious illness to the prom. He left behind a daughter. In June 2022 he was held at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and an incident report obtained by Broad + Liberty says he attempted suicide in his cell by hanging with a torn bed sheet. He was taken to Riddle Memorial Hospital and died three days later, on June 18. His mother and aunt say the suicide does not match the person they knew, and they have questions about how he was found, how long it took to notify them, and whether he was denied medical care before the attempt; the county declined to comment.

Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide (disputed; neglect alleged). The incident report obtained by Broad + Liberty says Langworthy hanged himself in his cell with a torn bed sheet, while his mother and aunt dispute that account and question how long it took staff to find him and whether he was denied medical care before the attempt.

Reported by: incident report obtained by Broad + Liberty (the agency that held him); Broad + Liberty (reporters); his mother and aunt.
