Pamela Riddick
Pamela Riddick was held at the Portsmouth City Jail in Virginia in August 2017, and she died in August 2017 after being taken to Maryview Medical Center for a medical problem. Her family says they still do not know what happened to her. Video released in 2018 appears to show deputies did not check on her for well over an hour, when policy requires at least two checks per hour, according to family attorney Don Scott. The Portsmouth Sheriff's Office says deputies falsified logs, that four deputies are under review, and that a new investigation has been ordered.
Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined (disputed; neglect alleged). Family attorney Don Scott says newly released video contradicts the sheriff's office account, showing deputies did not check on Riddick for well over an hour when policy requires at least two checks per hour; the sheriff's office says deputies falsified logs and a new investigation has been ordered.
