Oscar M. Kelly
Oscar M. Kelly was held in the jail at Dallas, Oregon, in July 1887. According to the Daily Evening Bulletin, a mob took him from the jail at about 2 a.m. on July 9 and hanged him, and the report says he had cut his neck, wrists and ankles and was bleeding heavily when the mob seized him. A later account in The Grenada Sentinel gives the date as July 7 and names the place as the jail at Dalles, so the day of his death is disputed between the two reports. Neither account says whether jail staff resisted the mob or gave up the keys.
