Oscar Livingston
Oscar Livingston, a Black man about 22 years old, was held in the jail at Pointe-a-la-Hache, Louisiana, a town about 35 miles down the river from New Orleans. Jailer L. T. Fontenelle said a mob of masked white men overpowered him early on Sunday, August 2, 1931, took Livingston from the jail and lynched him. The article says the mob's claim against him, that he had assaulted a white girl, was reported without any independent confirmation. Fontenelle's account of how the mob got in and what happened inside the jail is the only one the article gives.
