Oscar Adolfo Lester Umul Xicay
Oscar Umul Xicay, 23, was held at the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas, California, when other men held there attacked him in the showers and dorm area on January 27, 2025, according to police reports. Police say surveillance footage shows he did not fight back. He was taken to a hospital with severe head injuries, doctors removed part of his skull to relieve brain swelling, and he died there on February 4, 2025. Police reports say several other men have been charged in his killing. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office reviewed the death and said it found no negligence or misconduct by deputies, while the county's jail oversight office agreed but called for an additional level of formal scrutiny and recommended larger surveillance monitors and less predictable welfare checks.
