Orchard

Orchard, a young man, died by hanging at the Indiana penitentiary at Jeffersonville, according to newspaper reports from May 1868. The Sweetwater Forerunner reported that he had tried and failed to escape before he killed himself. The Nashville Union and Dispatch likewise reported his death as a suicide by hanging at the penitentiary after a failed escape attempt. The reports describe how he died but not the circumstances of his custody or the staff's response.
