Died in jail or a lockup
Omar Maknassi
Omar Maknassi, 32, of Alexandria, died at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center in the early hours of July 31, 2025. According to the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office, a deputy found him unresponsive in his cell, and he was pronounced dead at 2:04 a.m. The sheriff's office said it was the second death at the jail this year. Fairfax County Police are investigating, and detectives have preliminarily said they do not suspect foul play. Authorities have not yet determined the cause or manner of his death.
