Oliver H. Bateman
Oliver H. Bateman was hanged at Savannah, Missouri, on November 21, 1884, in an execution the Sedalia Weekly Bazoo reported from a St. Joseph dispatch. The paper said a crowd it put at 10,000 watched, and that death followed within seven minutes of the trap being sprung. According to the paper, Bateman professed religion the day before and said he was ready to die, and his only words on the scaffold were a short prayer for mercy. His body was cut down and handed to his father, who had chosen not to watch and had waited uptown.
Cause of death, as reported: Executed by the state
Reported by: St. Joseph, Missouri special dispatch, printed in the Sedalia Weekly Bazoo (reporters).
