Died in jail or a lockup
Noni Battiste-Kosoko
Noni Battiste-Kosoko was 19, a former student at Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn, Georgia, who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. In the months before her death she was homeless after leaving a mental health facility. She had been held at the Atlanta City Detention Center since May 20, and she was found dead in her cell there on August 5, 2025. The ACLU of Georgia says her death was avoidable and is calling on Fulton County to stop jailing people before trial because they cannot pay bail.
