Nicholas Rapp
Nick Rapp, 34, was described by his parents, John and Judith Rapp, as part of a close, loving family who rarely went a day without talking to him. They said he had been doing well, working and trying to get sober, and that he adored his daughter; his mother said, "He was someone's precious child." After Rapp was held at the Kitsap County Jail in Port Orchard, he attempted suicide in his cell on Jan. 2, 2020, and was taken to Tacoma General Hospital. The Kitsap County Coroner's Office listed the manner of death as suicide, citing complications from a brain injury. The family's lawsuit alleges that jail staff failed to act on warnings about his suicidal thoughts and that the county and its jail medical contractor, NaphCare, were negligent; the case settled for $2.75 million, the sheriff's office declined to comment, and NaphCare expressed sorrow at his death.
