Nicholas Farah

36 years old · died March 2019 · Clark County, Nevada

Nicholas Farah, 36, of Appleton, Wisconsin, was a father to two daughters and a dedicated worker, according to his family and friends, and his brother said he was 'a father, a son, a brother.' He was on a family vacation in Las Vegas when, in March 2019, police and jail officers restrained him in a restraint chair. Police said he became unconscious after jail officers pressed him forward while handcuffs were being replaced, and he stopped breathing. The Clark County coroner ruled his death a homicide by suffocation, and the district attorney's 2020 report found no criminal wrongdoing by officers. His family settled their lawsuit against the city for $2.35 million in January 2022 and is calling for restraint chairs to be banned in jails.

Cause of death, as reported: Killed by staff (disputed). The Clark County coroner ruled the death a homicide by suffocation, while District Attorney Steve Wolfson's March 2020 report cleared the officers, and his family's lawsuit against the city settled for $2.35 million.
