Nelson Serrano
Nelson Serrano, originally from Ecuador and reported to be nearly 86, died in a hospital in early August 2024 after being moved there from Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida. People involved with his case told The Ledger that he had a brain tumor and blood clots in his lungs, and the Florida Department of Corrections recorded his manner of death as natural. His son, Francisco Serrano, said his father was left in a wheelchair for about two weeks without attention or food, and the family raised the alarm through their attorneys. In July, the Ecuadorian government had asked for clemency for him, citing his health.
