Executed
Nathe
Nathe was one of two men hanged on a scaffold in April 1880, and he spent his last hours in the jail with a priest, Father O'Leary, who stayed with him most of the day. He and Jake prayed for themselves and for friends, white and Black, who had asked them to pray. A newspaper account published days later reports that a large crowd gathered around the jail and along the route to the scaffold. The account is written in a sensational tone.
