Nastashia Minock
Nastashia Minock, 35, was born in Bethel and raised in Pilot Station. Her mother and sister remember her as happy and joking, someone who tried to cheer people up and loved being with family and children. She died early on August 23, 2022, a day after arriving at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center in Eagle River, an Alaska Department of Corrections facility. Police told her mother that she was found unresponsive around 1:30 a.m.; the department said no foul play is suspected, and the State Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death. Her family wants to know what happened and whether she was being properly monitored.
