Nasser Hamad

died September 9, 2018 · Franklin Medical Center, Franklin County, Ohio

Nasser Hamad was diagnosed in January 2018 with terminal kidney cancer that had spread to his lungs, and his brother asked a court for his release in March, a request the judge denied. His attorney, Geoffrey Oglesby, a friend of the family, said Hamad did not get the cancer care he should have received while in prison. Hamad died on September 9, 2018, at Franklin Medical Center in Columbus, a hospital that is a state corrections facility. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction said his death was medically expected and gave natural causes as the tentative cause, pending the death certificate, and the coroner did not order an autopsy.

Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (neglect alleged). The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction said he died of terminal kidney cancer, and his attorney said prison staff did not provide the cancer care he should have received.
