Mya Carlton
Mya Carlton was 19 years old and was held at the Kent County Correctional Facility in Michigan. Her family says she was placed in isolation and repeatedly asked for mental health care, and her aunt, Amber Calvert, says surveillance footage shows she had access to clothing she used to take her life. The Kent County Sheriff's Office said deputies found her during a routine check on June 10, 2025, and that it is investigating. Mya died at a hospital three days later, on June 13, 2025. Her family says she reached out to them for medical help and is asking for reforms so that people with mental health needs in custody are better protected.
